Beacon Dodsworth have satisfied the UK census organisations that they meet the agreed standard of data analysis and dissemination and have been designated an Approved Supplier of value added Census output released in the last fifty years. They are one of the first three companies to have passed these stringent quality checks.
They supply market analysis services to clients in a wide range of industries including media, automotive, telecommunications, financial services and the public sector. They can now give these clients the option of using their own census products in addition to those that they currently resell.
The data is also being used to develop a people classification called
P2 People & Places.
P
2 provides a more powerful tool by combining census data with a wide range of other datasets, under the guidance of two of the foremost academic experts in this field.
Professor Peter Batey and Dr Peter Brown of the Department of Civic Design, Liverpool University developed the Super Profiles classification and set-up the first Teaching Company in the geography and planning fields to transfer academic expertise into practical applications. They have over 20 years of commercial spatial targeting system experience and both of them worked with 1966 census data.
Commenting on the award of approved supplier status Simon Perry, Commercial Director of Beacon Dodsworth said:
“The decision to make UK census data available free, particularly on the website
www.statistics.gov.uk/census, is great. Now every organisation can have access to data that previously only government and large companies could use. But there is a need for advice on how to use the data. Over two billion counts are produced and they frequently need to be combined with other data to solve practical marketing and other demand estimating problems. We coined the term ‘g-commerce solutions’ for this kind of analysis. We are delighted that we have been approved to help provide the advice people need.”
